While 2008 is still fresh in the memory, it seems appropriate here to pause and remember the remarks from the past year that made many of us wonder, "Did they really say that?" Republicans and Democrats are both guilty of uttering words that make no sense what's so ever. Having said that, there are some quotes here that are so disturbingly lacking in intelligence that it is apparent the dumbing down of America is in progress. Here we go the top 10 quotes of 2008. Why ten? Simply because 2008 was a unlucky year for the Conservative base. and to honor President-elect Obama’s Kenyan heritage. Because in Kenya, ten is considered a very unlucky number. Here is to our new fearless leader!
10. “I’m offering myself up. I’m saying that if I have the background, the capability and the concern to do this and I’m doing this for the right reasons… but I’m not particularly interested in running for president, but I think I’d make a good president. Nowadays, the process has become much more important than I think it used to be.” - Fred Thompson
Sorry Mr. Thompson, but this remark could not be left off the list. Fred Thompson came out of no where and stirred the imagination of the conservative movement. For a brief moment, many were wondering if Ronald Reagan’s long lost brother had come to save the day. However, his campaign was doomed when he kept hemming and hawing about jumping into the race. When the decision was made, it was too late. The moment was lost and the good Senator from Tennessee revealed that his heart was not into becoming President. For future reference, any candidate who is not particularly interested in running for the office would just be better staying home. We need leaders who want to lead.
9. “I remember landing under sniper fire. There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base.” – Hillary Clinton creative memory of a trip to Bosnia.
Hillary loves to tell a story. The problem with this is that there were people who remembered this trip a bit differently. Also, in the archives, were films of this very same trip. Interesting no snipers in this clip. However, there was a friendly reception and a small child with flowers to greet the First Lady. Hillary didn’t get the details right, no big deal. Anyone could have miscalled this event.
8, “It was the most memorable time of my life. It was a touching moment because I never thought this day would ever happen. I won’t have to worry about putting gas in my car. I won’t have to worry about paying my mortgage. You know, if I help him, he’s gonna help me.” – Obama supporter Peggy Joseph at an Obama rally
By far the saddest statement ever to made in America. This is the anthem of this generation: “Ask not what I can do for myself. Demand what the government will do for me.”
7. “Tomorrow morning, I will suspend my campaign and return to Washington after speaking at the Clinton Global Initiative…I am directing my campaign to work with the Obama campaign and the commission on presidential debates to delay Friday night’s debate until we have taken action to address this crisis.” – John McCain’s confusing campaign tactic regarding the Wall Street Bailout.
The intent was nobel. The outcome was regrettable. How can a man who survived the tortures of Vietnam, as we were reminded, lose the will to fight? Easy. Since returning from Vietnam he has found a new religion: Compromise. It’s the easiest tenet to follow. Just walk over to the other side, and forget your own values. Well, it’s a good thing we started winning in Iraq. At least Senator McCain has some consolation in that fact.
6. “And guess what this liberal would be all about. This liberal will be about socializing…uh, um… would be about, basically, taking over, and the government running all of your companies.” – Congresswoman Maxine Waters sharing her vision of free market principles if the oil companies didn’t lower prices.
Why this woman ever gets reelected is beyond an explanation. It was refreshing for her to finally admit what the Liberal agenda is really all about --- socialism.
5. I would say that as an ardent, practicing Catholic, this is an issue that I have studied for a long time. And what I know is, over the centuries, the doctors of the church have not been able to make that definition. Rep. Nancy Pelosi on Meet the Press, August 24, 2008 with Tom Brokaw.
As an ardent, practicing Catholic, as Pelosi claims to be, it would be easy enough to pick up a copy of the Catholic Catechism to find the references to important writings of the Doctors of the Church. It’s all there for anyone, even non-Catholics, to research. Why has it taken her so long to study this question? Perhaps, she is looking in the wrong places or asking the wrong people.
.4. “Obama is an immigrant” – Bill Richardson, governor of New Mexico, speaking Spanish at the 2008 Democrat National Convention. in an interview on French television.
Who knew that it would become public on UTube? What an interesting thing for Bill Richardson to say. Perhaps he should enlighten us on how to deal with this information. Will it be improper to note that President Obama is the first African-American to hold the office or should it be said that he is the first African to hold the office? Not to worry, the main stream media is not asking for clarification on the statement and it was said in Spanish. Which means, the gringos won’t understand it anyway and this little slip of the tongue will be forgotten. Maybe.
3. “I need to know if she really thinks dinosaurs were here 4,000 years ago….I want to know that, I really do, because she’s going to have the nuclear codes.” - Celebrity Matt Damon attempting to look or act smart about politics.
First off, Mr. Damon, Sarah Palin would not have had the nuclear codes. Secondly, don’t you think it would be more important to know about United States Government, foreign policy, or even economics to run for Vice-President. If the only concerns you have for someone running for office is that they believed in Dinosaurs, then a three-year old would meet your requirements. Why is it that the mainstream media believes that Hollywood starlets are not only talented but geniuses? There is truly a logical reason why people like Matt Damon become actors and not brain surgeons.
2. "It's time to be patriotic ... time to jump in, time to be part of the deal, time to help get America out of the rut." Joe Bidden, Democrat Nominee for Vice President on Good Morning America.
Millions of tax payers are already very patriotic. Every day that hard working Americans get up to go to work, they are paying their fair share and then some to the money pit called the United States Government. Taxes are just another way of controlling the masses, keeping the little people dependent on Big Government. The question that should have been asked of Senator Biden, is this, “How patriotic are you Senator Biden? Will you being paying more taxes or are you choosing not to be part of the deal ?”
Last but not least the number one quote of 2008 was uttered by President-Elect Barack Hussein Obama.
1. ”Well, uh, you know, I think that whether you’re looking at it from a theological perspective or, uh, a scientific perspective, uh, answering that question with specificity, uh, you know, is, is, uh, above my pay grade.” – Barack Obama at the Saddleback Presidential Forum answering the question “At what point does a baby get human rights, in your view?”
Now that Obama is President, will Rick Warren be able to ask this question again? After all, he must have gotten a raise by now. Not a chance. This questions is probably still above his pay grade. Simple question Mr. President, real simple. Yet, you can’t even answer it, God help us when there is another question which is above your pay grade. We will be doomed.
There it is, the top ten quotes of 2008. It will be interesting to see the top ten for 2009.
