The President is back at the White House after a long week’s vacation at Martha’s Vineyard. Before he left, the White House staff released his reading list for this vacation. After golfing , the funneral, and family time when did Mr. Obama have time to get through such an ambitious list? Perhaps, he is a speed reader, we will give him the benefit of the doubt. In any case, the titles he selected to reader were:
The Way Home by George Pelecanos, all lawyers love a crime thrillers based in Washington, D.C.. Where else do they get the idea of total corruption and power?
Lush Life by Richard Price. Not a surprising pick by Mr. Obama since it is set in New York’s Lower East side and is about racism.
Hot, Flat, and Crowded by Thomas L. Friedman What would light summer reading be without a little bit of environmentalism radical activism.
John Adams by David McCullough. Wonder if he was at all inspired by this former President.
Plainsong by Kent Haruf. Who put this on his list to read may not remember that the man is from Chicago thug land. It is hard to see how a a drama about the life of eight characters living in a Colorado prairie community would be interesting to him. However, it may help him understand how to recruit effective community organizers on a ranch without getting run out of town.
What would really be interesting to see is what books would be Mr. Obama’s core list of books. The books that he loves, and returns to time and time again. No official word has come from the White House but here is one guess that would be correct, Open Veins of Latin America: Five Centuries of Pillage of Contentment. by Eduardo Galeano. Obama received the book by Chavez, so it is safe to assume that because the two men share the same views on politics, it was read in haste, highlighted and kept near at hand for references purposes. Here are the next top ten books that are probably on Obama’s bookshelf.
Rules for Radicals by Saul D. Alinsky. Well duh! Everything he has done so far matches step by step this radical man’s plan.
1984 by George Orwell. In high school it is required reading and it stirs up debates as to whether or not a government could take that much control over private lives. Obama’s answer to that: YES WE CAN! For him, this book is a gold mine of ideas.
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. Another classic that gives Obama wonderful ideas of how to govern, control and create the perfect society.
All The President’s Men by Bernstein and Woodward. The glory days of how the Democrats were able to shake up the government enough to have a Republican President step down from office. Who doesn’t like to remember the good old days, even if parts of the story are based on fabrications?
The next section could be labeled as books from my favorite philosopher and dictators: Wage and Labor, A Communist Manifesto both by Marx, Mien Kemp by Hitler, War, Racism and Economic Justice by Castro. All of these titles are against capitalism, freedom and private citizens. It is all about class warfare, control and government having the ultimate authority. Each one of these title could substitute the bible for liberals.
Class Struggle by Karl Kautsky is a classic tome on the theme of class warfare, and how to even the field for everyone. In other words, spread the wealth around.
Last but of course not least, Socialism on Trial by James P. Cannon which is the step by step dismantling of capitalism in favor of socialism, communism as a way to govern the working people. Mr. Cannon was the secretary of the National Socialist Party in the United States during FDR’s Administration. Cannon was jailed for his opposition to the Administration during war time. His agreements were futile then as they are now. However, that does not stop liberals. Although, one has to ask how they feel about one of their favorite President’s throwing someone in jail because they dared to take a stand?
This list could totally be off, and none of these books are on Obama’s bookshelf. However, watching the President in the past couple of months shows that at least 90% percent of the list is correct. It would be wonderful to hear from the White House that would either confirm or deny this claim. In any case, it wouldn’t hurt for a few conservatives to pick up one or two of these titles to get a better insight as to what we are up against.
