Growing Up In America

It was much simpler back when I was a kid.  Perhaps, all adults feel that way.  Now that Obama has begun his campaign on changing America, to suit his image, maybe a reminder about what is at stake is appropriate.   The country is changing so quickly that at times it seems that if I blink my eyes,  America will disappear.  Fourth of July is coming up and it breaks my heart to see the shape America is in.
To paraphrase a line from Mrs. First Lady,  for the first time in my life,  I'm ashamed of America and afraid of my government.  I've seen the bumper stickers for years,  I love my country, but fear my government.  I understood how powerful a government could become but never thought it would happen here.  We are the country that proved that citizens could speak up against their government and demand accountability without destroying the system.  The Press has always been the champions of the common folk with their words of neutrality which demanded that our government listen to the voices of the people first.  Yet,  here it is 2009 and I wonder how much longer will I be able to have freedom of speech and thought.  How long will it be before someone comes to my door, takes my computer and takes away my voice?  Will the media have the courage to acknowledge that if the voice of the people are silenced, their voices will be silenced? I pray that will never happen.  It is the cornerstone of our Republic.
Watergate broke when I was in fourth grade.  President Nixon taught me one very important lesson:  Presidents are not perfect. What was Nixon's crime?  It was not clear to me as a child.  As an adult, I look back, scratch my head and think,  he left office because he agreed to cover-up a break in at Watergate. Nixon's closest advisors were indicted and convicted of list of crimes, including wiretapping, and lying to the FBI.  It is a shame that the President surrounded himself with these advisors, and there was a sense that thee were lines that even the President couldn't cross.  It's called taking the blame for the actions of others.  When Nixon resigned it was a move that was good for the  country.  I wonder now would our current President, if facing the same situation as Nixon, would do the same? When President Ford took the oath of office.  The impression that that left on me was profound.  A president could leave office because of a scandal and a peaceful transition could take place.  No one would ever be King in America.   This is a good thing.
Politics in America is never perfect and always surprising.  When a Georgian Governor won the seat of the Presidency in 1977,  virtually an unknown candidate, it was hoped that America could finally move past Watergate.  President Carter's image in the beginning was one of good country charm.  He was a man of faith,  moral values and an all around good guy who would shape up the White House, which had been tainted by the Republicans.  The only problem was,  Carter's vision for our country lead us to high inflation rates, high unemployment and a gas crisis.  However, the  biggest, dumbest and boneheaded act of his administration came during the Iranian Hostage Crisis.  Under President Carter's leadership,  the world saw America as weak,  arrogant and dangerously incompetent.   It took President Reagan's election to office and eight years to rebuild the damaged image of America around the world.  It was not important anymore to be liked, it was more important to be respected.
In High School, the main theme that teachers taught  me  was that our President was old, stupid and a war-monger.   What did I know?  I agreed with them because my mind was mush.  However,  why was it  that I felt safer in the 80's?   Maybe because I witnessed historic events that at one point I was told would never, ever happen.  Remember the Berlin Wall?   As a student in High School I was taught that communism won and the United States lost.  The Berlin Wall was a testament to that fact and would never be removed because of  Communism's strength.    Yet, the Berlin Wall came down,  the Cold War came to an end and there was freedom in Poland of all places.  Who would have thought this could ever happen?    I can think of  three courageous people who were the axis of greatness during the 80's who made this possible.  Ronnie, Maggie and Pope John Paul II.   An unlikely trio to be sure, but their place in history is solidified.   All three recognized the dignity of every human being and the desire of every human heart to be free.
In almost thirty years, we have come so far.  President Obama said it himself on the campaign trails, he is not like the guys on the American bills.  He made this statement with racial undertones, because he is African-American.  I agree with him, he is not like George  Washington, Abraham Lincoln or Andrew Jackson.  This has nothing to do with the color of his skin.  It has more to do with the fact that he is cut from a political idealism that is very foreign to America and her history.  Obama's political agenda is in line with socialism, marxism and communism.   In the past year, he has done more to change the face of  American than any other President in history.  He states that he is a  citizen of the World,  and that scares me on so many levels.  If he is a citizen of the world,  where does America rank with him?  If he does not believe in the exceptional gift called America,  what then does he believe in?  If America is a Muslim country,  why is it that our laws are based on the Judeo-Christian beliefs and not Sharia law? If America is racist, backwards and has committed all the evils in the world,  how is it that America gave him the opportunity to become President?
This Fourth of July,  I will remember all the brave young men and women who sacrificed their lives so that I can live in a country that is free.  There is a new battlefield now and it is close to home.  In their honor,  I  will take up the fight for freedom and push back the forces that threaten the greatness of this country.  If I reman silent,  I will have contributed to the demise of America.  I can not have that on my conscience.

Duncan Does Not Understand What Happened in 2008

The RNC did it again.   They just don't get why they lost the 2008 election.   It would be nice if they would stop listening to their critics in the mainstream media and get help for the Sally Field Syndrome.   "They Like me! They really Like me!"  Well, let's set the record straight for the RNC.   It would be an honor to  present the BoneHead of the Year Award to RNC Chairman Robert Duncan.  Mr. Duncan you may  pick up your award anytime.  As a service to the RNC, who at this point should be reminded time and again why they are no longer getting donations, the reason for  the defeat in 2008 for the Republicans. Here are the top ten reasons why the GOP lost 2008 presidential election.

1.  PC ruined the party.  No not the computer silly.  Political correctness.  During the campaign our beloved old geezer candidate said that he was going to run a proper campaign.  That he would not  drag his opponent's name in the ground.  Really?  McCain never had the spine to run for president in 2000 much less in 2008.  The fact that Obama's associations could not be brought up for discussion because it may seem racists was one of the dumbest moves of the GOP efforts.  No, let's not tell everyone who this guy really is.  It didn't matter if Barack Obama was pink --- his associations mattered big time and the candidate who promised to fight backed out on the very first try.   Nice job. But when it came down  to the wire, he finally started in on the Rezko stuff.  Well it was a little too little and a little too late.

2.  The media just loves Obama and therefore so do the Elites.  Which brings us  to the wishy-washy, I will cross the isles to compromise with my fellow man  candidate,  who bent over so far, he couldn't tell which side he was on.  McCain basically let the media dictate what his policies were and hoped for the best.  His campaign slogan was  good but instead of Country First, it should have read "Compromise First."

3. All the blame can not go squarely on McCain's shoulders.  It should be shared with the rest of the Republicans who didn't do a darn thing to stop the out of control spending of a Democrat congress.  Let's see, a bailout for every bank and insurance company.  Wait a minute.  It should be noted that  McCain did a  nobel deed of stopping his campaign to  go back to work to fix the problem.  Um.  What was his idea?  Still searching for the answer, this will have to be answered at a later date.

4. No leadership.  None, zilch, nada.  Not from President Bush who stayed out of sight for the most part because the GOP is embarrassed of him.  Why?  We will search that answer along with McCain's idea.  The only rising star that came out of the election on the Republican side was Sarah Palin.  When the media attacked her, the GOP said nothing.  Wow.  Can't say a nasty thing about Obama but Sarah was fair game?  Would this be a gender or color issue?  Or both?

5. The message about the middle class was taken over by liberal zealots who believe that the only way to help the middle class is to tax them or put them on welfare.  Sorry for the misrepresentation.  The only way to help themselves was to promise more taxes or welfare for the middle class.  What an option.  Don't forget about spreading the wealth too.  Where  has that worked?  Again.  More research needed on that one, perhaps Obama's little minions will be able to dig that one up or make it up.  One or the other, right?   McCain never stayed on message.  He jumped from fighting the good fight, to let's go green to We all want to be like Joe the Plumber.

6. We need to include everyone into the Party.  Really?  So does  that mean if a conservative Latino were to join the party they would be denied?  No where in the party's platform does it say ONLY WHITES NEED APPLY.    The Republican party as it is understood by most Americans is a party which is pro-life, pro-capitalism and smaller government.  Anyone who has these values are welcome into the party.  So when Mr. Duncan says "The 2008 election was a wake-up call for Republicans to reach out and bring more people into our party," it is disturbing on many levels.  The least of which is that he is buying into the notion that Republicans are white bigots.  No sir, that would be the KKK.  Try talking with them.  A side note to this is the reason why Duncan feels this way.  The song "Barack the Magic Negro"  offends him.   Well, sir you offend me and before labeling the song racist, read the words and then read an article from the LA Times called "Obama the Magic Negro."  Call me if you need clarifications.

7. Along with wanting to dump the current President who has done a tremendous job in keeping America safe for the past eight years, former President Ronald Reagan, May he rest in eternal peace, was thrown overboard.  Republicans who have been in office for far too long, have begun to think that platform that Reagan ran on in the 1980's are for the record books and no longer valid.  Remember this when the Democrats try Cart'er's plan again and see the wonderful mess we get into with the economy. As if it is not already a mess.

8.  A candidate and a party who are  afraid, ashamed  and annoyed to be conservative.  Plain and simple.  If they don't get over that they will never win again.

9. The grumpy old guy wants to look hip, so he goes on Saturday Night Live to lampoon himself as a last minute attempt to get votes.  Whoever thought that this was a great idea on McCain/Palin team should be driven out of the business of advising political candidates now.  Don't look back.  Don't hope for another chance.  Just go.  The crowd which is  in tuned with SNL are not watching the program because they love Republicans.  They are watching because they hate Republicans.   This is not the normal hate.  It is the, "I hate you so much I want you to die"  crowd.  That's real friendly.

10.  Republicans are  out of touch.  They have forgotten who brought them to power in the beginning.   Hardworking, middle class Americans who believe in the American Dream.  Time to go back to the beginning and re-read the constitution.  If Republicans continue to discount what the voters are saying, then it is time to find a party that will listen.  It is not the Democrats, they wouldn't know the American Dream even if it bit them.  It's time for common folks to rise up and take leadership of this party or perhaps start a new one.  Move over... there just might be a librarian looking to make a few heads turn.

If the RNC wants to see donations go up, walk the conservative walk, talk the conservative talk and take action.
