The Healthcare debate has gone on for over twenty-five years, if not longer. There have been ideas tossed about between the two parties, but nothing seems to satisfy either side. If a foreigner were to listen to Liberal Democrats the picture of healthcare in America would be that the medicine is awful and expensive, doctors are crooks and people are dying due to improper medical treatment. Especially the poor folks. It's a know fact that when they arrive at the emergency room, they are turned away as soon as it is discovered they don't have insurance, right? Wrong. However, in the liberal world this is how healthcare is perceived. One huge industry that is in desperate need of a government takeover.
Flipping over to the other viewpoint, we find an entirely different approach to the problem. Conservatives have always believed that healthcare should be about the patient's dignity and privacy. No one should be given the authority to determine what is best for the patient. That is a conversation between the doctor and patient. As for the cost, it can not be denied that the costs has escalated. The conservative route is to find out why they have escalated and ask the industry leaders to look for common sense approach to fixing the problem. Government price control and medical coverage is not the answer. Medicaid is an example of how efficient the government healthcare can become. The conservative approach has always been let the patient be in control of their own healthcare. In the conservative eyes, this is one huge industry that should be corrected by free market ideas.
Why is healthcare so important to the Democrats? This is the main platform that the current president ran on. He wants nationalized healthcare and he wanted it yesterday. By his own admission to his party he stated, "You are going to destroy my Presidency." The honeymoon is over for the President and he is finding that all his ideas are not going to get a green light pass. Charming the crowds will only get you so far. This just may be the issue that reminds him that his is not King. Policies are not changed just because he decrees them. What this really reveals is that he hasn't got a clue that the American voter does not want this reform. The poll number clearly states, disapproval for the President's handling of the healthcare is at 49 percent. The support is slipping.
Healthcare is another way of spending and taxing at a higher rate. According to research conducted by the Heritage Foundation, $2.4 trillion dollars is spent on healthcare in the United States. The government alone is responsible for almost one-half of the money spent on health care. In order to pay the doctor's bill, what is the best way to take care of the government dilemma? Control the industry with draconian measures which include taxing the middle class to pay for universal coverage, control the costs of medicine, as well as doctor's salaries, and create a governing board which will determine who will receive treatment and who won't. This is how nationalized healthcare works. Ask any citizen in Canada, Britain or France.
The President has consistently lied about how his healthcare plan will work. The idea that people will be able to keep their insurance if they like it is ludicrous because this plan basically gets rid of private insurance. Private insurance will no longer be available due to the fact that the government will have forced them out of business. Employers looking to cut costs will opt for their employees to join the government's plan. Employees will have no say in the matter. Ask any member of congress or their staff, would they want Obamacare? The average salary of a congress person is $174,000 per year. Along with that salary comes benefits which includes 12 different private health insurance to choose from. It is an assumption that our leaders will not be choosing a system where if you are young with a heart problem you may have pacemaker to extend your life or if you are too old, pain medication will be your treatment. Why stop there? Obamacare would be cheaper still if they administered it in the fashion of Russian Roulette.
Another interesting note to this is Democrats are fixing healthcare behind closed doors. They do not want the public to see what the true agenda is and how it will be implemented. The quicker they push this through the better. An ignorant public is easier to deal with than one who knows the facts. Credit should be given to the Blue Dog Democrats and Republicans who are coming out and speaking up about the Democrats plan. At the same time, citizens should not sit idly by and hope that their representatives do what is best. The pressure should be on Obama, Pelosi, and Reed to let them know that this is NOT what Americans want or need. Write to them, email them, or call them. Pester them until the message can be not be misunderstood. NO GOVERNMENT RUN HEALTHCARE, PERIOD.
The healthcare problem has been brewing for a long time. It can not be fixed over night and certainly won't be fixed just because the Democrats quickly pushed it through congress. There should be open debate from both sides of the isle and the voice of the American people should be heard. If the President's presidential future is in jeopardy, that is his own undoing. Since coming into office, he has continuously brought chaos to America. His economic policy is failing. His foreign policy is non-existent but he does show a tendency to support dictators. His domestic agenda seems to be on destroying America from the inside out. This is where the line in the sand should be drawn. His agenda stops here. It's time for him to listen to his boss: The American People.
